Organic Food Can Curb Down The Cancer Risk

Organic food is cultivated through organic farming as it maintains ecological balance and biodiversity. Organic farming has a minimum to no harmful impact on the environment. The health benefits associated with consumption of organic food are good. The recent research suggests that consumption of such food can curb down the risk of cancer.

Organic farming basically aims to reduce the use of harmful chemicals, pesticides, and fertilizers for growing crops. Organic food cultivation has to follow certain standard laid down by the government and international organizations. According to the latest study published by Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale in France, this food holds good in reducing the cancer risk.

In this study, more than 70,000 French men and women have participated. Also, their dietary patterns were monitored for more than 4.5 years. The study results can be seen in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine. The cultivation of organic foods strictly avoids the use of synthetic fertilizers, genetically developed food, and irradiation.

The use of harmful pesticides seen in traditional farming methods can cause cancer risk. The study participants were divided into 4 groups based on their organic food consumption. Such food comprises of fruits, vegetables, meat, Fish, condiments, oils, and others. The results of the study showed that out of total participants 1,340 cancer cases were observed. The common cancer types recorded during the study include breast cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer, and others. About 459 participants were diagnosed with breast cancer, 180 participants with prostate cancer and 135 participants with skin cancer.

Also, the consumption of organic food and related cancer risk was determined. It was seen that the consumption of organic food has cut down the risk of cancer by 25 percent. Furthermore, these individuals were 73 percent less likely to develop non-Hodgkin lymphoma and 21 percent less prone to post-menopause breast cancer risk.

The study results act as evidence reflecting the importance of organic food consumption to curb down the risk of harmful cancer.
