The number of people suffering from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease is growing rapidly. Alzheimer’s disease leads to memory loss which can further cause dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is commonly seen in elderly people aged above 65. The researchers claim that coffee can prevent memory decline in later stages of life.
In the United States alone more than 54 percent population consumes more than 1 cup of coffee on daily basis. In other countries also this is the most popular and widely consumed beverage. Apart from keeping you fresh throughout the day this magic drink also helps in maintaining brain health. It holds good in preventing an individual from cognitive decline in later stages of life.
The co-author of study Mr. Donald Weaver from Krembil Brain Institute of Canada states that the consumption of this beverage can decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The researchers wanted to determine which compound present in this beverage prevents the memory decline issue.
After analyzing different types of coffee it was seen that caffeine is the key element which holds good in preventing the risk of brain disorders. A particular compound called phenylindanes which gives a bitter taste to coffee prevents brain disorders. This compound prohibits the growth of tau and beta-amyloid which leads to memory decline.
The consumption of dark roasted coffee is recommended to prevent the risk of memory decline. The compound phenylindanes is present in this type. This compound will maintain proper brain functioning and can prevent memory decline. The risk of Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease can be reduced by consuming this magical beverage daily.
The results of the study can be seen in the journal Frontiers In Neuroscience. Also, this is the first study to determine the benefits of coffee in keeping away the memory decline issues.
